Kimya Dawson

"Kimya Dawson," The New Yorker, April 7, 2008

Here's a portrait of Kimya Dawson done for the New Yorker (plus some of the color variations I went through to get to the final). I was pretty excited to get this assignment because I like the Moldy Peaches. It's nice they're getting some recognition (albeit post-breakup, er, "hiatus").

Listen to Kimya's solo work here.

Blind Mountain

"Blind Mountain," The New Yorker, March 17, 2008
Li Yang's latest film tells the story of a young Chinese woman who is kidnapped and taken to a remote village where she is sold as a bride. For this piece, the art director asked me to do the drawing large scale and with a brush. Here are some unused sketches:

Phone a Friend

These are some unused drawings for an upcoming illustration. It seemed appropriate to post these today because I received a 'phone-a-friend' call from Jordie earlier today- he was on a game show! Unfortunately, the question was whack so I was no help. The episode is set to air in the spring...more details then...

Calling Dr. Lee

"Calling Dr. Lee," San Francisco Chronicle, November 25, 2007

This illustration was for an article about a woman with 3 "Dr. Lee's" in her life- her optometrist, her doctor and a Tibetan nun- and what happens when she emails the wrong one.

This was my first illustration for the San Francisco Chronicle! It ran in their Sunday Magazine.
